The National Library
At the Royal Palace, entrance from Piazza Plebiscito, tel. 081 401.273. This library was originally set up for the Farnese collection of books that Charles of Bourbon brought with him to Naples when he took over the kingdom . Other collections added over the years are: the papyri from Herculaneum consisting of around 2.000 papyri discovered during the excavations, the Lucchesi Palli collection made up of lite - rature on music and drama, the San Giacomo collection of books on literature and history, the Queen Maria Carolina of Austria collection, the Brancacciana collec - tion of works on local history, manu - scripts and incunabula (the last collection is housed at 15 Via Donnaromita in the old city of Naples). Among the most important manuscripts in the National Library are some fragments of the Bible written in 5th century Coptic dialect, and two Evangeliaries dating back to the 5th and 9th centuries. There are about 5.000 incunabula.
